What if I’ve never shot film? Will I be lost in this workshop?
No, you’ll be fine, and have a great time in the process. Of course, in any info-packed workshop like this, you can’t expect to remember or fully grasp everything, but you’ll get a great foundation to work from, and exposure (no pun intended) to the possibilities film has to offer.
I’m an experienced film shooter. Will the workshop be worth the money?
Absolutely. We’ll be delving into not only the ins and outs of developing, but how to fine tune the relationship between exposure and development to produce the look you want. We’ll also talk about creative ways to shoot film, finding your voice, and a host of other topics. You’ll be glad you came.
As a dedicated digital shooter, how can a film-based workshop benefit me?
The great thing about getting a grasp on the film process is that it puts the concepts you use in digital literally into your hands, so you can thoroughly understand the concepts you use both with your camera and in post processing. Additionally, if you prefer your digital workflow but you like a “filmie” look, this will give you a better understanding of the characteristics and behavior of film. It helps to know what you’re aiming for!
I’m tempted to register for your current workshop, but I’m wondering if I should wait to see if you come to my area?
It’s my intention to take these workshops cross country and overseas as I have with my other workshops, but I can’t guarantee when or if I’ll be near you — even if your city is listed as a tentative location. There are so many variables. Workshops tend to fill very quickly once announced, so if you’re interested, my advice is to jump in right away.
I have a film camera that I got from my dad / grandpa / kid / mailman, and I have no idea how to use it. Can I bring it with me?
Of course! I’d love to help you learn the basics of your camera, especially if it’s an old one! Just shoot me an email letting me know what kind of camera it is, or send a snapshot of the camera, so I can do a little digging first. Chances are I’ve already used a camera very similar to yours, but every now and then I come across something wacky and wild, and I like to come prepared.
Is that your natural hair color?
No, my hair color would be considered “natural” by nobody’s standards. But it is vegan, and the jar is quite cool.
